A Romantic Fairytale Spanish Destination Wedding
The rustic warm-colored villas. The iconic, towering cypress trees. The glittering Mediterranean sea. This romantic evening has everything we like about Spanish destination weddings.
Alexandra & Matthew’s Barcelona wedding is dripping with romance (there’s grounds we scheduled this stunning scene around Valentine’s Day!) “Red may be the color of passion, therefore we aimed to incorporate plenty of reds, burgundies, and pinks of numerous shades within the flowers & décor” says bride Alexandra. We love when our couples use color & florals intentionally in design, and also the red hues certainly blend directly into this warm Spanish atmosphere.
We’re also quite giddy once we get to gush on the Galia Lahav real bride (no shame, we're totally Galia Lahav fangirls around these parts!) Alexandra provides the quintessential bridal shopping story – something BM stylist Christina is definitely trying to remind our brides – let yourself put on and be surprised at gowns you didn’t think you’d wear. Alexandra went shopping envisioning a sleek sheath gown and was instantly charmed with this breathtaking ballgown which fits the fairytale romance ever-so-well.
Our Love Story
Alexandra: I was bartending within the late NYC nightclub Output one evening if this strikingly handsome man ordered a drink from me. Every time he found the bar, he checked out me using the kindest eyes and also the brightest smile, but in my experience, it appeared he was attempting to be respectful and “not hit around the bartender”.
When he returned for a third round, he rested his chin in the hands, discrete a big swoony sigh, and said “Can I get a–“ when I interrupted him and blurted out “Would you love to go on to start dating ? with me??!” The rest is history, and that we’ve been together for more than 7 years now.
As for my dress, I’ve been keen on Galia Lahav’s for quite a while and went shopping looking specifically for any sleek, fitted sheath dress. But once I laid eyes around the Aelin, a sensational, shimmering, sequined ball gown, I couldn’t picture myself in other things. I’m a large music person, therefore the music selection seemed to be incredibly important.
The Destination & Design
The inspiration for the wedding revolved round the natural beauty and romance of Spain and Barcelona. Red may be the color of passion, therefore we aimed to incorporate plenty of reds, burgundies, and pinks of numerous shades within the flowers & décor. I’ve always were built with a flair for that dramatic and love a darker aesthetic, therefore we filled the marriage day venue with lots of candles to produce a cozy, romantic atmosphere.
My wedding coordinator, Jennifer, designed a few suggestions for any wedding photographer, and also the portfolio of Andrea Ferrara really stood out in my experience. I felt like he could be the main one to capture my vision, and that he truly didn't disappoint!
The videographer was someone the photographer has collaborated with within the past, which became a fantastic decision simply because they worked together so well & captured probably the most stunning photos I’ve seen (though I may be considered a little biased)!
As I am currently studying for my Masters in Chinese Medicine, getting a planner was the very best decision I might have possibly made. Jennifer May, of Crystal Events Barcelona, was a complete lifesaver, and I literally might have not pulled this wedding off without her.
On your day of the marriage, don’t forget to breathe. It is statistically impossible for every thing to visit exactly as planned, so don’t sweat the little stuff, end up like water and roll using the waves, and revel in your wedding day!
The Music & Reception
I’m a large music person, therefore the music selection seemed to be incredibly important. For dinner, I curated a playlist filled with romantic classic American Soul & R&B, and during the party, my only request was “Disco, & disco only!” We had this type of blast, and I hardly left the party area the entire party!
Another unique feature in our wedding was the photo booth we'd designed. We were built with a gorgeous red velvet couch encompassed by flowers, having a neon sign reading “Can’t take my thoughts off you”, that have been lyrics in our first dance song. Not only made it happen create a remarkably beautiful photo booth experience for the guests, but we've the gorgeous register our home, which is a constant reminder from the most special day in our lives.
We had originally planned to go to Bali for the honeymoon in April 2020, but as you can imagine, we postponed it due to Covid. We were finally able to take it earlier this December 2020 (over our 12 months anniversary) and chose to travel somewhere a little closer to our hometown of New York City.
We spent 9 days in Costa Rica and were absolutely consumed through the beauty from the country, the incredibly exotic plants and creatures (and thus many adorable sloths!), and probably the most delicious food we now have eaten inside a long time! It was so difficult to leave, and that we already planned on returning for one in our future anniversaries.
